Virtual Gallery Instructions
Now you’re an art collector the world wants to know about it. And doesn’t your collection deserve the finest surroundings? It’s time to achieve both of these and create your exclusive CoMission gallery.
There are various solutions on the web to do this, and one that we particularly like is Spatial.io. It’s very easy to use, has great features, and the best thing of all is that a basic user account is free. Pretty much a no brainer.
Below is a quick overview of how to get started with Spatial, and some of the cool features you can have fun with. Steps 1-5 will take you through setting up an account, creating your own personal gallery, and hanging your first piece of art – and the whole thing should take you less than five minutes. Trust me, I used my Dad as a tester and he crushed it in 4:36.
- Go to spatial.io/login, and sign in or create a new account if this is your first time there.
- Once you’re in your account click the + Create button in the top right hand corner to create your new gallery.
- The Create New Space menu that then appears on the left gives you the following options;
- Free – use one of their free existing templates (quickest, easiest route)
- Creator Toolkit - if you have the skill and desire to design and create your own custom space
- Collectibles – if you want to buy a limited edition space
- Your Templates – where to access any templates you might have created
The following instructions are to use after selecting the Free option, and then selecting from either the Isle Gallery, Aeris Gallery or Obsidian Gallery.
- You will then be transported in to your gallery and see your avatar waiting for you (which is customizable). To hang your art, click on the Upload Art icon in the middle of the placeholder on the wall where you want it to be. Your cursor should be fully over that icon, and will change its appearance to 👆🏻 when it is.
- The Images page will then come up, where you will select the art you want to hang. If this is your first time here, or you have not already uploaded the art you want to add to your collection, click on the Upload option on the left hand side and then drag your digital artwork file into the upload box, or select it from your device’s hard drive. Congratulations, you have just hung the first piece of art in your new art collection.
- If you’d like to increase its size, rotate it, remove the frame, or delete it, click on the image and a menu box will appear. You can also add an Info Panel on the wall beside it (recommended), so that visitors to your gallery can learn about the artist and their artwork.
SOME MORE FUN FEATURES…
Sharing your gallery with others is a cool way to show your art to the world, and it takes just seconds to invite guests to join you. Click on the Share button. This is either at the bottom of the screen or, if you’re in full screen mode, click on the ⁝ icon in the top right. If you choose the Publicly Listed option your gallery will be available to everyone on Spatial, and it will appear under your profile. If you decide not to make it publicly listed you won’t see it under your profile the next time you log in to your account, however you will still be able to find it by going to the ☰ menu in the top left of the screen and selecting Yours.
Add video and voice to talk to your guests directly in the gallery by enabling them in the ⁝ menu in the top right. To either use these or the Chat feature, a user must be signed in to their account. If one person is signed in but the other is there as a guest, the signed in user’s mic will work and the guest will hear them, but not be able to reply. The same applies with the Chat feature.
Giving your gallery a name and description is a good idea If you’re going to exhibit it. You do this by clicking on the Edit button, found next to the Share button mentioned above.
Taking photo’s and videos of your gallery, and screen sharing are also great features you can explore in the ⁝ menu in the top right of the screen.
